I will start off by saying that this has been one of my favorite courses in all of my four years of university, it was unfortunate that I had to take this course online and never got the chance to meet Dr.Zhong. One of the many skills that I have either started to work on or that I learned thanks to this class was the use of Google Analytics, I was always aware of the software but never really knew how it was used for someones advantage. Thanks to this course I understand how Google Analytics can help organizations various businesses with their social media. I will also say that another skill that I decided to work on thanks to this class was app development, I am definitely not a professional and don’t have much experience but through this class I was able to work on the idea and see how my app idea can compete in the emerging market. I created a home page and the application icon for one for the Social Media SPotlight presentation, more specifically in the create an app section of the presentation.
An important lesson I learned in this class was how being a telecommunication major, or any communication or media major in 2021 is so important for the market in the future, and that the communication industry/jobs are going to become essential in world that is conquered by Internet of Things. Technology that is always advancing, will also advance our society and technological literacy is becoming a requirement for most jobs. One of my favorite lessons from this class was the lecture that focused on the values of the Netflix culture, not only because we were able to receive inside information thanks to Dr.Z but because the entertainment industry is the only reason I became a COMM major, thus meaning I was very interested in the nine vales that they look for in their work force, and because Netflix is a company/studio that I would love to be a part of in the future.
This course has definitely opened my eyes for my future career, when im thinking about how social media and how literacy in computers will help me in the future, and will always think back to this class and the lectures from Dr.Z. I hope to stay in contact with the professor, I believe that this class has also impacted me positively when it comes to mental health, and how I can use technology to my advantage to live a better lifestyle than to be trapped on social media.
As a whole, like I said in the beginning definitely one of my top three classes I have taken in all my four years, it was nice knowing that we were being taught by a doctor that knew what he was doing and always available to cooperate with the students on any matter. I will also say that the course I believe is an essential for most majors because this information is truly useful to everyone.
