The Axle: I would do a story on how Penn State’s decision to not mandate the vaccine affects Centre County. I would like to find out how it affects Centre County businesses and COVID-19 cases.
Riders: I think the best people to tell this story are Centre County health officials and Centre County business owners. Because Penn State didn’t mandate the vaccine, there are unvaccinated individuals from all over the country in Centre County more than half of the year. Could that potentially increase COVID-19 cases in Centre County going forward? How do Centre County businesses feel about that? Are business owners worried about the well-being of their businesses? I feel like those are all valid questions given the situation Centre County has been put in based on Penn State’s decision to not mandate the vaccine. Also, I think getting the opinion of permanent Centre County residents would be a good idea since the decision impacts the place where they live.
Spokes: I would definitely want to include footage from a vaccination clinic, which would show the other side of Penn State’s decision and what it’s missing out on. I would also include footage from a health office and from a Centre County business. I think I would be able to get a business owner’s permission to film if I explain to them what I’m doing. My nat sound would come from a vaccination clinic, as I think that’s very relevant to the topic. Lastly, I would like to get footage of Old Main because I think that represents Penn State the best way.
The Rim:
Beginning: I would open my story with the shot of Old Main that I previously mentioned. Then, I would transition to a shot of a vaccination clinic and then to a Centre County business. While the footage plays, I would give some background information on Penn State’s decision not to mandate the vaccine.
Middle: The middle of my story would focus on my interviews with Centre County residents, county business owners, and county health officials. This is the “bulk” of my story, which is why it would go in the middle.
Ending: The end of my story would focus on how the decision to not mandate the vaccine has affected the county to this point, whether that’s from a COVID-19 case increase perspective or business closure standpoint.
