The Axle: For my weekly story, I would want to cover the rising privacy concerns regarding social media, specifically platforms like Facebook which also owns Instagram and Whatsapp among others. The college student demographic is one of the biggest users of social media.
The Riders: The Penn State campus is nothing short of professors and professionals who are well versed in tech and digital media. They would be the best people to ask about privacy concerns and get a more logistical view out of them. Other people to talk to would be social media users and anyone affected by it. I would focus on their opinions and experiences with different platforms and whether or not they think the benefits outweigh the harm.
The Spokes: I imagine this as a mini-documentary-type project. It would include various shots of people on their phones, laptops, and other devices. The focus would be on the information and the different interviews and profiles. Additionally, there would be data gathered to show different numbers that would relate to the story. This would have to be done in an interesting way as to not lose viewer attention.
The Rim:
- Beginning- I would open with different shots of people using social media and a general view of its usage
- Middle- It would continue with the interviews and would include visualized data in form of graphs or others to highlight the important information.
- End- Finally, the story would end with possible advice that consumers can follow to ensure the safety of their privacy or ways that it can be made more secure.
