Charles Reinert – Blog 5

This class has been a very interesting and very informative experience. I have learned a lot about myself and how I want to continue in the broadcasting field. I have also learned a lot about filming, editing and acting natural on camera. These are skills I am going to need if I want to be successful in my career. But most importantly, I’ve made a lot of memories and made a lot of connections in this class. It was a lot of fun and I would gladly take this course with this group of people all over again. We are very lucky to have taken this class in-person.

One thing I learned in this class is how to make yourself look presentable and how to handle myself in front of the camera and behind the camera. But more importantly, I learned how to write a tight and sound script and I learned how to say it the right way. It is important to know how to sound comfortable and confident at the same time during a newscast. One of the lessons that I remembered the most and will apply to my style is the storybook lesson, where we each read a book like we were reading a newscast.

But I value the time I had with Professor Zhong and hearing his stories. I also enjoyed the different analogies he would bring to each lecture. I have a lot to learn still, but this class has pointed me in the right direction. It is now up to me to get better and use this knowledge to my advantage. Professor Zhong also cared a lot about his students, and it showed. He was very flexible and accommodating towards the students, and I was never worried about getting feedback that was rude or mean.

To put things simply, I’m very happy with this class and I have made memories that have been the highlight of my college career.  But the thing I will take away from this class is how important it is to space things out and not try to get everything done at once. During this class, I have tried to get everything done in a timely manner, and I get better at it as the semester went on. It is important to be prepared and have everything done in time. Deadlines are important. But it’s also important to take time to yourself. Everything needs to be in balance.
