This weekend is the 40th annual fall show for the Nittany Antique Machinery Association at Penns Cave in Centre Hall, PA. This is a newsworthy story because it’s an anniversary year for the show and it’s also a very popular event that people who watch the news would be interested to know about.
There is a strong community involved in the operations and management of this fall show who have been involved since it’s inception in 1975 and I would be interested in interviewing board members and the two original founders, Dick Markle and Russell Mark and hear about the behind the scenes of the show and how its evolved throughout it’s history. Additionally, I would like to interview vendors who are involved in this years show to see what they are selling and their feelings about the event.
I would approach the story as a straight news story to inform the viewers about the event and what will be featured.
I would definitely start shooting on location for this story before the actual event took place so that I could have shots of the location before the vendors and tractors arrived to show the process through b-roll. I would interview vendors before the event to hear about their past experiences and their expectations for this year so that I could get the story publicized the day before the first day of the show so that the audience would know it’s an upcoming local event.
I would begin the story by informing viewers that the event was coming tomorrow and Then I would show the process of the construction as the interviews with the founders (or board members) on how it was put together, what’s different this year and what their expectations are. Then I would say what will be featured at this years show and have interviews with specific vendors that are most interesting in my opinion. I would end with giving the information about location and times again.
