Kim Connors Weekly Story Idea 3

The Axle: The focus of the story would be on the Philipsburg-Osceola school district’s plan to build a new sports complex at the senior high school and how the community members of the district feel about the plan.

The Riders: members of the educational board that are pushing the plan, various athletes/coaches that play on the fields, members of the community whose tax dollars will be paying for the new complex

The Spokes: -Interview with members of the educational board discussing the importance of building a new sports complex and how this isn’t just a luxury but more of a necessity

-Interviews with athletes and coaches that use the fields at the school discussing how they feel the conditions of the field currently are and their thoughts on new fields being put in and how much of a difference this would make in their games and practices

-Interviews with tax-paying community members about whether or not they have any concerns paying more money (the project is projected to cost between $4 and $6 million dollars, and about $20 million just into renovating the district middle school) and their thoughts on the importance of putting in a new complex at this point in time, considering the longer they wait the more money they’ll have to pay

-B-roll of athletes using the fields in their current conditions at practices/games

The Rim: Beginning: Start off with b-roll of the athletes and coaches using the fields in their current conditions with v/o explaining that the P-O Education Foundation just released potential plans to build a new sports complex of facilities at the high school.

Middle: Transition to interviews with the athletes and coaches talking about their opinions on the conditions on the currently fields and how necessary it is to build a new facility considering the dangers the current fields bring. Then transition to the educational board discussing what their plan is, how much it will cost, and stressing how this isn’t a luxury but a necessity for the community.

End: Finish with tax-payers discussing their thoughts and concerns on the new complex, mostly focusing on the money they will be dishing out to support the project but also having highlights of them focusing on the necessity of the project despite the money because it is important for the safety of the student-athletes.
