Gabrielle Yocum Weekly Story #4

Idea: Annual Crime Report Shows Drop in Sexual Assaults on Campus

Axle: I want my viewers to understand that although sexual assaults could happen at any campus, Penn State is taking the appropriate measures to create a safer environment and it is starting to alleviate this problem.

Riders: The best people to tell this story are University police, State College police, Campus Housing officials and Penn State students. Penn State students would make great SOTs because I could get their opinion on how safe they think campus feels and how great it is that the number of sexual assault cases are decreasing. Campus Housing employees would also make great interviewees because I could ask them how they take action to keep campus and residents as safe as possible.

Spokes: I would use NAT sound from students walking around campus and just simply going about their day. I would also use SOTs from students and police officials when I interview them about the topic.

The Rim-

Beginning: I would use NAT sound from students walking around campus and going about their day. I would then use an SOT from students talking about campus feeling safe and how informed they are about timely disclosing information across campus via PSU Alert, etc.

Middle: I would transition to information about the Clery Act and how it is affecting Penn State in a positive way and lowering the number of sexual assault cases. I would then interview a police official.

End: I would end my story with an SOT of a Campus Housing employee speaking about how they are trying to keep campus safe and excited to hear that their actions are working to do so.
