Idea: My story will be on how a Penn State alum finishes his coast to coast journey on foot for Penn State’s THON
Axle: I want my viewers to understand about the Penn State alum, Norman Horn and how he just finished his journey called Coast2Coast, from the west coast to east coast to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer and specifically for Penn State’s THON year-long fundraiser. I want to focus on how Norman said he wasn’t involved with THON whatsoever while he was a Penn State student but saw how great the philanthropy is and decided to contribute what he could as an alumni.
Riders: The best people to tell this story are Norman Horn himself because he experienced this journey firsthand, people he had touched along his journey, Penn State’s THON 2015 Executive Director, Megan Renaut and possibly a Four Diamonds family that was touched by his hard work and story.
Spokes: I would use b-roll of Norman Horn on his journey and finishing his trek in Atlantic City while the huge celebration took place. I would also use SOTs from strangers who helped Norman along his way and were touched by his mission. I would use SOTs from Megan Renaut (THON 2015 Executive Director) and hopefully from a Four Diamonds child and family.
The Rim-
Beginning: I would use NAT sound and b-roll footage from Norman’s journey and focus in on his sneakers, feet, etc. I would ask how many pairs of sneakers he has gone through on his journey to emphasize how strenuous it was. I would then use SOTs from Norman himself and ask why he is doing this for THON after he graduated years ago and how important this was to give back to the largest student-run philanthropy event in the world.
Middle: I would transition to SOTs from Megan Renaut and a Four Diamonds family about how people like Norman have such a large impact on this amazing philanthropy event and how acts like this are raising country-wide and even world-wide awareness for Penn State’s THON.
End: I would end my story with more SOTs from Norman about what he wants to move forward with now and how he will live out the rest of the year staying in one place for awhile.
