The Axle: With arguably the biggest football weekend in State College in years on the horizon, how are restaurants and bars preparing for what promises to be a hectic Saturday?
The Riders: Champs Sports Grill is one of the more popular places in town to go to on game day, so I figured I would talk to some employees that are working Saturday night. If the owner is around, which he probably will be on a busy day like this, I’ll have him touch on the uneasiness of needing everyone to be at their very best because they have to satisfy so many customers. Bar Bleu Sports Lounge & Liquor Bar is another establishment that tends to get crowded on a typical weekend, let alone an occasion like this. Here I can talk to more employees and customers. One of the questions I’d ask customers is why they choose to watch the game where they do.
The Spokes: To kind of convey just how crazy things get in this town on weekends such as this upcoming one, I’ll get some B-Roll of downtown State College on Friday afternoon as people start piling in. Then on Saturday, I’ll be sure to spend time in both Bar Bleu and Champs. For more B-Roll, I’d focus on the employees who are working their tails off – from the bartenders serving drinks, to the chefs in the kitchen. I want to show the workers hustling while the customers just relax and have a good time so that viewers have more appreciation for those who make sacrifice a Saturday night to make some money instead of going out with friends.
The Rim:
Beginning: Use the B-Roll I shoot on Friday when people start arriving in State College. Maybe get a quick shot of the traffic downtown or on University Drive that’s imminent on any football weekend. In the VO I’d talk about the implications of this weekend not on the field, but for businesses in the area.
Middle: Here I’d introduce the two bars and talk to the managers about how difficult it is to prepare for expected huge crowds. How many more employees do they need working as opposed to on a typical weekend? Show B-Roll of customers smiling, having a good time while the SOT is running.
End: Show the employees busting their tails off and depending on the sound bites I compile, I’ll finish things off with an employee talking about how everything they do is for the greater good of the customer. Anything along those lines would be a nice ending, but I can always end with a VO containing the same message.
