Jason Kohler – Weekly Idea 8

Axle: The center point of my story would be the bartender at Inferno’s in downtown State College. Shane Markley was recently was the recipient of an award giving him national recognition.

Riders: Some good subjects would be other employee or managers of the restaurant. They will be able to shed light on how Markley takes his business to such a high standard and what they feel he does so well that earned him such recognition. Also, an interview with Markley himself would be great so he could share his feelings on the honor. Finally, sitting down and speaking with some regular customers who may be familiar with Markey can share their feelings and sentiments on Markley and why they think he is so good.

Spokes: I would include details about Markley’s background and how he got into bartending. Then follow that up with information as to what made him get so into his profession and a standup from inside the bar with Markley showing me some of his tricks to the trade and perhaps even giving me a chance to make a drink, to make a good demonstrative standup.

Rim:

Beginning – Start with a standup from downtown in front of the restaurant introducing who our subject will be and the premise of the story. Then, include some B-roll of the restaurant and customers ordering drinks from Markley.

Middle – Transition to SOT with Markley talking about what got him into this profession and what drives him to be so good that enabled him to earn such great recognition. Transition, to more B-roll and a VO talking about Inferno’s a bit and how Markley ended up there.

End – Conclude with SOT of other employees, a manager, or customers talking about Markley from their own experiences and sharing why they think he is deserving of the award. End with a demonstrative standup with Markley pouring a drink, and sign off from Inferno’s in downtown State College.
