I believe in chasing after big dreams.
Everyone has a dream in life. Whether it be to own a big house, get the dream job, or travel a lot, we all have one. The difference between dreams for most people is the belief that it is actually attainable. I have always identified as a “dreamer.” I come from a very small town where most people think I am crazy for the things I want to achieve. But, I have been blessed with parents and friends who push me and believe that one day I will be more successful than my wildest dreams.
Dreams are what keep me going. When things get tough, or I feel like giving up the only thing that keeps me from quitting is the big picture in the back of my head. I have always wanted to work for a company like MTV, E! News, or Universal. I have a passion for movies and television, which isn’t exactly the most conventional thing in the world. If I had a dollar for every time someone told me “that is a really hard industry to crack into” or “what if you don’t make it?” I could pay off my college debt. My answer will always be, but what if I do make it! The only thing that scares me more than failing is not giving it my 100% effort. I credit that believe to my parents. My dad always told me growing up to shoot for the moon, because even if I don’t hit it I will land amongst the stars, which is pretty great too.
Paying your dues and working hard to get where you want to go is a lot easier said than done. It’s ironic I am writing this today because it is labor day and while all my friends are going swimming, and partying I am going to work for FREE. I intern for Penn State Football and I am a non-paid intern. As hard as it is sometimes to work hard day in and day out with no instant gratification, I know that later on it will pay off. That is why dreams matter. Dreams matter because they truly are what keep me going. On a day like today all I want to do is go to the lake with my friends and swim. But more then that I want to achieve my wildest dreams and prove everyone who ever doubted me wrong. Today is one of many that I have to sacrifice something, fully knowing I won’t see the benefits from this sacrifice for years to come. Part of the journey in dream chasing is not knowing how it might turn out. It will take a lot of hard work and sacrifice. But, the thought of achieving my dreams in the future is worth it all. My advice to everyone is to chase a crazy dream, it will give you purpose beyond your wildest imagination. Never believe you can’t do something because it “sounds” crazy. My dreams motivate me to be a better me, and that is why I believe in chasing after big dreams!
