The Axle:
As part of Penn State’s homecoming, this weekend is the Color Run, a 5k marathon that is all about having fun. I think this would be an interesting story for a local news station, because it would show viewers a great start to Homecoming, as well as an engaging event for the whole State College community.
My focus for this story would be to cover the event from a general perspective and show the audience what exactly the color run is and how to get involved.
The Riders:
The best people to tell the story would be The Color Run organizers and volunteers, such as a spokesperson for the Penn State Homecoming Committee. In addition to that, people running the marathon would also be important to interview.
The Spokes:
Quotes from interviews, such as Color Run volunteers, Homecoming spokesperson and those running the marathon. Furthermore, natural sound from the Color Run, such as cheering crowds. B-Roll footage of people running the marathon, and paint being thrown on them.
The Rim:
- Beginning: B-Roll shot of people running the Color Run and a VO explaining how even though this is organized through Penn State Homecoming, State College families are more than welcome to join.
- Middle: Interview with Color Run organizers and a Homecoming spokesperson on how the day went. Expressing their enthusiasm about the marathon, and info on how many people signed up with comparison to last year’s color run. Did more people sign up? And an interview with the marathon runners, ranging from different ages, such as students and younger kids with their parents. Why did they run the marathon? What makes this marathon different from others?
- Ending: natural sound of the crowds and B-Roll footage of runners being covered in paint, with a closing VO on how the weekend went.
