Brittany Misitano Blog 6

Taking COMM 465 this past semester has been a challenging, yet fun experience. Through taking this course, I have learned skills such as finding the right shot, having a better grasp on choosing stories, and editing the film I shoot.

Professor Zhong was very knowledge in all aspects of shooting and editing news packages. His professional experience at CNN provided excellent insight and real life examples to help us compare and relate our own projects to.

Because of this course, my confidence in filming, writing, and editing has grown tremendously. I’m more comfortable in front of the camera and will not be as intimidated to approach a project on my own in the real world if I continue down the path of news broadcasting.

This course, while the most challenging and time consuming of my semester, was also the course I learned the most from. Through Dr. Zhong’s lectures, power points, videos he showed, and guidance I believe my skills in broadcasting have increased dramatically. The most challenging part about this course, for me, was deciding what storyline to pursue as well as filming the right B-roll and enough B-roll.

Writing the blogs, doing the projects, and writing the weekly story ideas helped keep me up to date on all things in the news and around the State College area. And if I become a reporter, I will need to be up to date every day.

Through taking this course, I feel like I have the knowledge and skills to take what I have learned and apply them in my internship next semester, as well as my future career. While I still don’t know which route I’d like to take in broadcasting, I feel confident that everything I’ve learned in this class will benefit me going forward.
