Megan Close taking photographs

Megan Close is a Junior at Penn State Abington, majoring in Art with a concentration in Photography. She is currently working on a large-scale mosaic mural that will be put up in the Sutherland building of Penn State Abington. In the spring of 2019, Megan received the Stan and Lois Singer award for Excellence in Black and White Photography as well as the Abington Honors Program Award. Her main concern surrounding climate change is the detrimental effects of plastic and its continuous production throughout the planet. She will center her research around the amount of plastic that not only gets produced and is not used, but also the amount of plastic that ends up within nature as opposed to being recycled. This will include how plastic and trash are degrading and destroying different aspects of our natural world. She will use this research, in combination with data sets pulled from the psychology and science students, to inform her outlook on the Narrative Photo Essay, which will be comprised of a group of photos depicting plastic and the environment. She will also document the physical installation process for these projects as well as photographing the people involved.  Some of these photographs will be included in the Website and Social Media pages. Megan would like to bring more awareness to the individuals within the Abington campus and community about the uselessness of plastic and just how much it negatively affects our world.
