Throughout their storied history, the ancient Greeks fought many great battles. These battles were fought against both foreign invaders rivaling Greek city-states. Perhaps the most famous battles were those fought against the Persians during their various invasions into the Greek mainland.
This section will provide an in-depth look at two of the battles fought by the ancient Greeks against the Persian Empire. The Battle of Marathon in 490 BC and the March of the Ten Thousand, 401-399 BC, are a couple that will be discussed. We will also look at the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BC, during the Peloponnesian War of the 4th century BC.
