Formation

The Greeks created the phalanx which a formation used exclusively by Greek armies for centuries. It developed and evolved gradually over several hundred years throughout the Archaic age in the 7th and 6th centuries. It focused on close order and maintaining formation, thus allowing the men to fight as a single unit. It lasted through all of the 5th and 4th centuries being refined and innovated until it saw its end with the conquering of at the hand of the great Macedonian king, Philip II.
