Outreach

As part of the Penn State Department of Entomology and the Frost Museum, I regularly interacted with the public to teach them about insects. I have participated in several large outreach events, such as the Great Insect Fair, Exploration-U, Wild About Animals, the WPSU Fall Kids Carnival, and Wings in the Park. I designed outreach materials and activities for these events, as well as bringing live insects for children to hold. I also designed lesson plans and visited local schools to teach second grade students about insect development and life cycles.

I have engaged in public outreach with children, teens, adults, senior citizens and college students with disabilities. Some of the topics I've educated the public about include insect internal morphology, insect biodiversity, the importance of insects to agriculture and ecosystems, entomophagy, and the research being conducted at the Frost Museum.

I was a regular contributor to the Frost Curator’s Blog: Musings and miscellanea from the Frost Entomological Museum at Penn State, which aims to educate the public about events and research at the museum. I was also a member of the Entomological Collections Network (ECN) Social Media Twitter Team, which aims to promote insect natural history collections.
