Penn State Scare

This year, Penn State Football hasn’t been what it should be. Their record is 6-3 and all 3 of their losses are to pretty important teams: Ohio State, Michigan State, and University of Michigan. The most recent loss was University of Michigan this past Saturday.

This game was important to Penn State and fans because, with a win, the morale of the season would’ve been lifted. A win was needed to keep the season alive but, unfortunately, PSU couldn’t pull through. The team lost 42-7 in the frustrating face-off in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In the first half, Penn State was forced to punt every play, they never even reached field goal territory. At the end of the first quarter the scoreboard read 7-0 Michigan. At the start of the second quarter, Penn State had possession. However, they couldn’t take advantage after Trace McSorley fumbled the ball and Michigan recovered it. They were able to capitalize on Penn State’s turnover and score, making it 14-0, Michigan. Penn State was unable to recover and ended the first half with a shutout.

Fans, coaches, and players hoped the the second half would be a different story for the young Penn State team. However, the second half wasn’t much better.

Towards the middle of the third quarter, Michigan secured their lead once again at 21-0. This is where Penn State began to get more nervous. They hadn’t been shut out in over 200 games, and they couldn’t let it happen against Michigan. To switch it up, PSU took out McSorley and traded him with Tommy Stevens. So, it was disappointing when his first pass of the game was intercepted and brought back for another Michigan touchdown, bringing the score to 28-0. In the fourth quarter, Michigan was reckless, scoring 2 more touchdowns bringing the score all the way up to 42-0. At this point, the Nittany Lions just wanted to put some points on the board to avoid a shutout.

Finally, with 1:59 left in the game, quarterback Tommy Stevens ran the ball for a touchdown, changing the score to 42-7 and leaving the Penn State Nittany Lions with another loss.
