7 OT???

Number 22 Texas A&M Aggies beat number 8 LSU Tigers in 7 (yes SEVEN) overtimes this Saturday, 11/24. The game tied the NCAA record for most overtimes in a D1 Football Bowl Subdivision game and ended at 12:33 AM. The Aggies took the win 74-72 on their home turf, upsetting LSU for the first time since 1995. The 146 combined points are the most points scored in a FBS game and second most points scored in College Football history. Texas A&M coach, Jimbo Fisher, labeled it “the craziest game ever”.

It was obviously a back and forth match between the two teams. LSU thought they took the victory when the picked off an “interception” from Texas A&M quarterback. However, after an official review, the referees decided that the QB’s knee was down, the ruling was overturned and the pick did not count.

LSU, again, thought they had it in the bag when they were up 31-24 with only a few seconds left in the game, Texas A&M at 4th and 18. With zero seconds left on the clock, the Aggies spiked the ball, to “end” the game. However, after another review, the referees added one second to the clock. With this extra time, Aggie’s QB threw a 19 yard touchdown and the kicker made an extra point, ending the 4th quarter in a tie to begin the slew of OTs.

It wasn’t until the 7th overtime that Texas was able to lock in the win. LSU started off with a touchdown but an incomplete 2-point conversion. Texas returned the touchdown and was also unable to complete the 2-point conversion at first. However, the referees called a pass interference and a personal foul against LSU giving Texas A&M one more try. They completed the 2-point conversion bringing the score the 74-72 at the end of the 7th overtime, Texas coming out with the victory.

Because of the heated environment, the turmoil translated into the post-game. Kevin Faulk, LSU’s director of personnel and former RB threw punches with an unknown man from the Texas A&M bench, who, apparently, started the scrum. The fight was just a representation of the game and its environment at Kyle Field.
