This past Sunday, February 3, 2019, the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The New England Patriots are Super Bowl Champions, resulting in Tom Brady’s 6th Super Bowl ring, an NFL record. Although Patriots fans are ecstatic, a lot of viewers were disappointed with the game, and a lot of people didn’t even bother to watch. The game’s viewership was the lowest of the decade with only a total of 100.7 million total viewers.

This Super Bowl was the lowest scoring Super Bowl in history. In the first quarter, neither team scored, making it an uneventful start to what’s supposed to be one of the most exciting games of the season. During the second quarter, the Patriots were only able to capture a field goal, making the score 3-0 at the end of the first half.

Many viewers were also very unimpressed by the halftime show. Because of the recent controversy between the NFL and Colin Kaepernick, not many performers wanted to do the halftime show, which, to me, is understandable, and a huge statement. So, Maroon 5, Travis Scott, and Big Boi performed at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show (with a few seconds of Spongebob-and not even he could save the day). Overall, the beginning of the Super Bowl was a let down for viewers and a stressful game for fans.

During the third quarter, the Rams were able to kick a field goal, changing the score to 3-3. This was the most exciting point of the game, and the score was still extremely low. And finally, in the fourth quarter, the Patriots were able to come out on top, winning 13-3, and becoming the champions!

For many reasons, this Super Bowl was a game of firsts (and seconds). The Patriots are now the second team, along with the Steelers, to have won six Super Bowls. The Rams are the second team in history, along with the Dolphins, to leave the game without scoring a touchdown. Although boring, Super Bowl LIII will be a game to remember.
