Advanced proposal

My project focuses on President George W. Bush’s speech, titled (Message to Suddam).

I initially break down President Bush’s speech using Burke’s pentad criticism.

In his speech, President Bush utilizes various forms of rhetoric, rhetoric in which I am going to distinguish.  His uses of ethos, pathos, and logos present a defended case against Iraq, specifically Suddam Hussein whom he labels as the enemy.  Furthermore, President Bush scapegoats Iraq as an underlying problem within the Middle East; he presents data gathered by the defense department which revealed that Iraq was harboring and producing weapons of mass destruction which threatens peace to not only the already unstable Middle East but to the United States as well.  He also scapegoats Iraq by saying that they are harboring and training terrorist, likely associated with al Qaeda.

Overall, President Bush’s uses of rhetoric in his speech to Suddam Hussein gained support from not only the United States but from the rest of the world.
