Hi, Carly here!
So for this first blog post, I’ll be going over my two ideas for a passion blog topic. Before I dive in, here are some things about me: prior to PSU, I lived in a small suburb right outside of Philly (literally five-ten minutes outside of Northeast Philadelphia), I am a vegetarian, I have a dog, and I love to travel. My hobbies include: knitting, running, hiking, talking, painting, reading, writing, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and drinking coffee. There are so many things that I care about; I could write about the environment or animals or movie reviews, but I’ve narrowed it down to a blog commentary on FEMEN or a blog focusing on Epidemiology and infectious disease.
To break it down, FEMEN is a revolutionary feminist organization which utilizes sextremism to advocate (legally in democratic societies and illegally in countries controlled by dictatorships or totalitarian regimes) against the patriarchy, the oppression of women in religion, the restriction of reproductive rights, and more. That being said, I do not fully support all the methods or ideologies of FEMEN, but I’d like to take an in-depth look at the issues/regimes they are currently protesting and regard this radical movement through the lens of women’s rights and advocacy through history.
The other option, Epidemiology and infectious disease, was born out of my aspiration to be an Epidemiologist. I am dual majoring in Sociology and Biobehavioral Health, so I’m on my way. If I go this route for the blog, I’d basically be discussing current outbreaks of infection or disease from around the world and commenting on them, using past outbreaks, current research, and causes of the current outbreak…I’ll basically be fan-girling about disease.
So here they are and here I am.
*Note: So the FEMEN topic won and I will begin my commentary next week
