The Council is comprised of multicultural leaders from the 11 academic colleges at the University Park campus. The Council addresses various diversity and inclusion issues both at the college level and university-wide.
College Multicultural Leaders (i.e. Multicultural Coordinator or Director, Assistant or Associate Dean) are responsible for college-wide leadership, coordination, development, and implementation of programs and policies that enhance the recruitment and retention of students from underrepresented groups. This individual(s) assists in the creation of an academic environment that is supportive to the success of the academic unit’s educational mission. In addition this person provides advisory and collaborative functions within the college and other University offices in efforts to improve diversity and inclusion University-wide.
These positions were established as a result of the University’s efforts to be in compliance with the Office of Civil Rights assessment regarding the desegregation of higher education in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and continue as part of the University’s commitment to foster diversity and inclusion.

The Way Pavers Awards
The Way Pavers Awards were established in 2011 to honor those who have contributed to supporting diversity initiatives that have positively enhanced student life the climate throughout the college and local community, while maintaining a high level of character and leadership. The awards are given annually to university administrators, faculty, staff and students.
