Students from Penn State’s CCPP and Trinity College collaborated for a long weekend of experiments and analysis in February 2016 at the Reacting Flow Dynamics Laboratory, under the direction of Dr. Jacqueline O’Connor, from Penn State, and Dr. Prabhakar Venkateswaran, from Trinity College. The initial collaboration produced a paper for the 2016 AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting (Culler, Wyatt, et al. “Comparison of Three Interacting V-Flames to a Single Bluff Body Flame at Two Reynolds Numbers.” 54th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting. 2016). The data collected during this on-site collaboration will be used to further develop our understanding of interacting flames and flow fields. Additionally, this collaboration has provided undergraduate students from both institutions the opportunity to play key roles in a large research project. Graduate students Ankit Tyagi, Wyatt Culler, and Samuel Hansford, along with Penn State undergrads Michael Meehan and Mark Frederick and Trinity undergrad Tristan Peirce all participated in the experience.
