With a desire to develop innovative programs that promote and normalize educational access for students with medical conditions or disabilities. In 1985, recognizing the barriers and with the resources available through institutional and private funding, the Dialysis Unit for Penn State Students was the only program anywhere offering specialized residential housing, hemodialysis units, nutritional and academic counseling, and prioritizing degree attainment for students with chronic kidney disease.
