A collection of portraits was taken by a team of four Penn State College of Medicine students. Their goal was to create a visual representation of the melding between extracurricular passions and medicine.
“Medicine does not have to be all about top exam scores, cold calculations, and state-of-the-art equipment. Compassion, empathy, and connection are just as essential to patient care. In fact, great medicine is often delivered using the latter. These humanistic elements of medicine are honed outside of the classroom particularly in the students who pursue their passions to the highest levels,” they write in their artists’ statement.
