New Commissioned Work
In conjunction with the Public Art Committee, Center Stage chooses commissioned artwork for the PSCI designed to enhance the environment of clinical and public areas. We are proud of the work that inspires our whole community and establishes a tangible connection between humanities and medicine.
Lime Spring Installation
This past year, Center Stage coordinated a visual art installation at Penn State Health Lime Spring Outpatient Center–Hematology/Oncology in Lancaster. After a careful selection, Center Stage commissioned two large glass mosaic pieces by local artist Linda Billet for the infusion therapy room.
“I know my art can’t save anyone’s life,” Linda Billet said. “But I do hope it nourishes their soul.”
A generous donation by Roger and Grace Moyer funds the two commissioned pieces by Linda Billet, and the PSCI sponsors the rest of the artwork, all of which was installed in May 2021.
We arranged for six large prints of Lancaster County landmarks by regional artists:
Center Stage involves both staff and patients in selection process, as it allows individuals to connect with the art in the space that they share. A wish to convey messages of hope, care, and peace through this art installation was the overarching goal. Additionally, we take great care to provide a diverse representation of artists, imagery, styles, and mediums so that the selected art feels inclusive of everyone who may view it.
Art Care and Kits
Center Stage offers PSCI physicians, nurses, and inpatient staff an adjusted workshop model that includes live music and a short art-making project to enjoy a period of relaxation during shifts. Such a reprieve, interjected in what very well may be a demanding shift, may help to combat the ever present problem of burnout and promote professional resilience.
Need art on the go? Center Stage designed kits to help relax and boost creativity. We encourage PSCI physicians, nurses, inpatient staff, and patients to use this as a wellness activity with their team or individually. Self-contained kits take approximately an hour to complete and are designed for all levels and abilities. Find all kit options at https://sites.psu.edu/centerstage/art-kits/
