4.2 Exercise Reflection

4.2.1 Modeling Implied Motion

The main purpose of the exercise was to become familiar with the commands of extrude, revolve, sweep, and loft, many of which had not been discussed before. In the exercise, we were tasked with creating four shapes, each of which utilize one of the aforementioned commands. For my extrude, I began with a simple circle, extruding and adding a significant taper to give it an interesting shape. In my revolve, I decided to go my route. Creating a quarter-circle, I used a full revolve to transform it into a sphere. The sweep involved a square sketch that followed a twisting path that I sketched out. For my loft, I used a square base and circular top, offsetting the plane above the origin. I was able to use loft to merge the two pieces into one. As a final touch, I added 0.125 in bevels on each object.

4.2.2 Mold Making

This exercise served to educate about the technicalities of mold making. To begin, there should be no undercuts, or places where the mold is wider at the base than the top. This could cause the positive to become stuck or lose details. In addition, the same principle applies to texture. To help with this, it is best to add a draft edge so the edges have a slight slant, which makes it easier to remove.
