Cheer Athletics

Cheer Athletics is one of the largest all-star cheerleading programs in the country.  Home to over 800 athletes and 39 teams, Cheer Athletics is located in Texas. (Although, they recently bought a gym in North Carolina.)  This all-star program is known for winning the most medals at the Cheerleading Worlds.  Cheer Athletics has won 16 gold medals and a grand total of 35 medals since the USASF founded the Cheerleading Worlds in 2004.  Cheer Athletics currently houses 8 worlds teams.  The most famous are Panthers, Cheetahs, and Wildcats.

Panthers

Panthers are in the large all-girl division.  This team has won 3 gold medals at the Cheerleading Worlds and multiple silver and bronze.  This year, the team finished third. Panthers also won gold at the Majors in 2012.  In my opinion, this team has some of the most unique all-star uniforms (pictured above).  Panthers 2014 Worlds performance can be viewed here.

Cheetahs

Cheetahs are in the large coed division.  The team has received 4 medals in total at the Cheerleading Worlds.  The year the team received fifth place.  This team is most famous for its many cheerlebrities.  The most notable is Matt Smith.  He is famous for his outstanding tumbling skills and not to mention his good looks and charm.  He has been featured in The Cheerleader Magazine.  Cheetahs are most known for their gold winning Worlds 2012 performance which can be viewed here.

Wildcats

Wildcats are in the international coed division.  This means that along with competing against U.S. teams, this team also competes against teams from around the globe at the Cheerleading Worlds.  Although the U.S. is most famous for all-star cheerleading, the sport is drastically growing in other countries.  It is truly incredible to see all the different countries coming together.  Wildcats has won 8 medals in total at Worlds, and this year they won the gold.  Wildcats is famous for their cheerlebrity Carly Manning.  She alone has won 4 World Championships.  She has been referred to as the “internets favorite teen cheerleader,” and she is wildly popular.  She recently appeared inside Teen Vogue and on ABC News (link below.)  http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/video/day-life-high-school-cheerlebrity-24530082  Wildcats 2014 Worlds performance can be viewed below.

Cheer Extreme AllStars

Cheer_extreme_logo

Cheer Extreme is one of the most famous cheer gyms in the country.  Established in 1993, they are located primarily in North Carolina and Virginia.  There are 10 gyms with over 50 teams.  Cheer Extreme is most famous for their three Worlds teams: Coed Elite, SSX, and Senior Elite.

Coed Elite

Coed Elite is a large coed team.  This means the team has over 26 members consisting of boys and girls.  They received third place last at the Cheerleading Worlds.  The team is most famous for cheerlebrity Holden Ray.  He has repeatedly been nominated as an Infinity Legend, which is a group of the best cheerleaders in the country, and featured in The Cheerleading Magazine.  Hold Ray is most known for his amazing tumbling skills, which can be viewed here.

SSX

SSX, or Small Senior X, is a small all-girl team.  The team consists of no more than 20 females.  They received third place last year at the Cheerleading Worlds.  This team just recently became very competitive in the small senior division.  This past year, they won The Majors, which is a very prestigious invite-only competition.  SSX’s Major performance can be viewed here.

Senior Elite

Senior Elite is a large all-girl team.  They are undoubtedly Cheer Extreme’s most famous team.  Senior Elite won the Cheerleading Worlds in 2010, 2012 and 2013.  Last year, they received fourth place.  Cheer Extreme is famous for changing and increasing the difficulty of the stunting aspect of cheerleading.  Senior Elite has had many cheerlebrities over the years, but the most famous has been Maddie Gardner.  Maddie Gardner is most famous for her ballup 360 ticktock.  (This can be seen at 1:23 in the video.)  I am in love with Senior Elite because of their 2010 Worlds performance.  This was the first year Cheer Extreme won a world championship, and it essentially put them on the map.  This performance shows what cheerleading is all about.  You can feel the love and passion.  If you get nothing else out of this blog post, please view Senior Elite’s 2010 worlds performance.  This video is the definition of all-star cheerleading.

All-Star Cheerleading: Defined

Cheerleading cannot be correctly defined in a dictionary.  The true meaning behind the word cannot be said or expressed.  It is only felt through the passion of thousands in the all-star cheerleading community.  The purpose of my blog is not to make you completely fall in love with something you may know nothing about.  Rather, my purpose is to provide and insider’s look at the sport and hopefully to increase your knowledge and appreciation for a world unlike any other.  Each week I will be highlighting a different World Champion team and their gym.  But first, I need to provide you with a basic understanding of what all- star cheerleading actually is with some common cheer lingo.

Cheer Lingo:

All-Star Cheerleading – a team sport that involves tumbling, jumping and stunting for 2 minutes and 30 seconds on a stage under bring lights in front of thousands of screaming fans.  We wear sparking, glittery uniforms. Our hair and makeup must look perfect. We are in love with every second of performing.

The Cheerleading Worlds – every cheerleader’s dream.  Basically, this is the cheerleading olympics for level 5 teams.  Teams must receive a bid to attend Worlds.

Teams – can be coed or all girl and consist of 5 to 36 members. Teams can be level 1 through 5, and only level 5 teams can compete at Worlds.

Stunting – building a human pyramid

Tumbling – harder than gymnastics

Cheerlebrity – a famous cheerleader. Yes, we even have our own celebrities.

Competition Season – the most wonderful time of the year when teams are fully active and bid hunting

USASF – the cops of cheerleading who control the rules and regulations

These are the most basic concepts.  I will be further analyzing various aspects of the cheerleading world in the weeks to come.  There are so many truly amazing and inspiring teams and individuals that deserve recognition.  All-Star Cheerleading is not all about the glitz and the glam.  It is about love, passion, teamwork, and dedication.  It is a sport that is determined to become more known and globally recognized.  Are you ready to begin the journey?
