Hello all innovators! Welcome to Chem-E-Car!
Since our first car in 2017, we have come a long way in developing professionally and improving our car from the one in the video above. Our car has become sleeker, and our design has been much improved through the learned lessons of the past.
Our club, while a branch of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), consists of students of all engineering and science majors working to design and construct a small chemically-powered model car. Each year, we attend the regional competition and compete against other Mid-Atlantic universities. Two hours before the competition begins, we are given a required travel distance for the car. The team closest to this distance out of three attempts wins the competition!
The accuracy and consistency of our battery and stopping mechanism require extensive data, experimentation, and a detailed understanding of the nature of the chemical reactions within our car. The best part about our club is the ability to be creative and contribute to problem-solving. We are responsible for fixing all problems and troubleshooting any discrepancies we face in our journey. Since we are required to change the battery and/or stopping mechanism every year, we are all on an even level field, so contributing is necessary from all our members! If you are ready to challenge yourself and create a chemically-powered car, you will be a great fit for our organization!
To join our organization, visit the “Contact Us” page to reach out to our president. For further details on the makeup of the car, view the rest of our website! To get a head start on joining the team, visit “Resources” to see the rules of the competition and how to get training so that you can be in the lab as soon as possible.
