Our Mission

We help create a close community within the chemistry department by hosting various events to allow us to interact outside of the lab. We provide outreach and professional development opportunities to allow our graduate students to develop strong professional skills for life after graduate school. Our mission can be broken down into four goals.

Professional Development

A main priority of our organization is to provide professional development opportunities for chemistry graduate students. We have hosted a number of seminars from individuals from industry, academia, and government.

Outreach

Another goal of our organization is to involve chemistry  graduate students in community outreach. We regularly participate in Exploration U and Discovery Space, two on-campus opportunities for sharing science with children. Our members have also been on discussion panels for undergraduates who wished to learn more about graduate school.

Graduate Recruitment

The PSU Chemistry GSA is very involved in recruiting and retaining new graduate students. We have implemented a mentoring program to pair incoming graduate students with more senior students. It is our hope that our mentors can help new students find labs and give to give them guidance as needed.

Community

Our final goal is to foster a sense of community within our department. We have hosted coffee hours, picnics in the park, gatherings to see professional sports or speakers on campus, and happy hours for our members.
