The Penn State Department of Chemical Engineering’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program focused on the Integration of Biology and Materials runs throughout the summer months and is funded by the National Science Foundation.
Students participating in the program will engage in a wide range of chemical engineering research projects that integrate biology and materials science and will participate in weekly group activities. These activities provide an overview of current biomaterials technologies and expose students to the research challenges in each area.
Students will have the opportunity to develop skills that will aid in key research contributions and will allow them to gain a deeper understanding of research processes and biomaterial technologies. Students will be challenged to utilize their skills and knowledge to develop new solutions for the betterment of human health, the environment, and society.
The REU program provides the basic skills and motivations needed to achieve future success in chemical engineering graduate programs and research careers.
We welcome all applications from students with diverse backgrounds and those that come from diverse institutions.
