Choosing your Major!

Coming to Penn State, I knew that I wanted to do something business related but was not sure which path to choose. Throughout high school, I took various business courses and participated in DECA, a competitive business club. Once I got to school, I felt much relief knowing that I had until the end of my second year to choose my major. However, I had no idea how fast time would fly be.

In order to get into Smeal business school, each student is required to take entrance to major classes and maintain a certain GPA.

For example, as shown above finance majors are required to maintain a 3.5 GPA. Looking back, I am happy that I had to take these classes as they helped me determine what I enjoyed and what I disliked.

Talking to older friends and classmates about their majors has also been very helpful. Hearing about their coursework and being able to see that they are doing well is reassuring.

This year I attended numerous events such as mock career fairs and networking events to hear from different business professionals. Listening to their advice and receiving their insight was extremely valuable.

To any student who is unsure about what they want to study, I recommend trying to talk to as many people as you possibly can. Hearing about different people’s professional paths can only help you make your choice!
