Professional Weblog Analysis: Danny Brown.

The Weblog I chose to analyze was this weblog: Danny Brown.

This is a blog by a man named, not surprisingly, Danny Brown. The layout of his homepage immediately drew me in. I think it is an excellent design, very eye catching and easy to navigate. I was immediately interested. After perusing the About Me section on his blog, I got to learn more about who Dan Brown actually is.

Brown works in the marketing for the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG), working mainly in the social media aspect of the marketing division. He blogs about various aspects of marketing and business in general, how it works in his industry, where it is heading now, where it really should be heading, etc. Based on his credentials, he seems more than capable of speaking on the matter.

Brown was a co-author of this book, which was wildly successful. According to his blog, it was recognized as one of the Top 100 Business Books in America by Nielsen BookScan. He also wrote another book of his own titled The Parables of Business, which uses stories he created to offer business advice.

This blog is designed to work the same way as his book: to provide insight and advice into the business world. As someone who is a business major, this was right up my alley. He directs the blog towards entrepreneurs looking to start up their own business, however there are some articles that can provide great advice to anyone (even non-business oriented people), such as “Three Non-Business Books for Your Summer Reading”. He writes these in a very friendly, down-to-earth manner which makes him a very compelling writer. You feel like you’re reading a message from your friend on Facebook rather than an article on New York Times. It is well designed and organized, but the prose is written in a way that almost feels like it doesn’t belong. His posts are very thought provoking and can stir up great debates, but he doesn’t write it for the sake of causing arguments. He blogs to inspire others to think more about decisions in the business world and about how to market properly, and this is why his blog is the #1 Marketing Blog in The World (at least according to HubSpot).
