Taehyung is a mysterious character who, like Seokjin, is the center of many fan theories. Today, I will discuss two theories that differ in that one presents Taehyung as the Devil, while the other presents him as a lost angel.

Devil

There are plenty of instances that lead ARMY to believe Taehyung represents a devil. This is due to content released from Bighit depicting Taehyung with black wings. For example, in the 2017 BTS LIVE TRILOGY EPISODE III THE WINGS TOUR Trailer , Taehyung unfurls his wings.

The video ends with him spreading his wings.

There was also a performance from the 2016 Meet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) showing scars on Taehyung’s back that resemble wings

that ends with him kneeling behind Seokjin and covering his eyes.

The ‘피 땀 눈물 (Blood Sweat & Tears)’ Official MV portrays a similar scene in which Taehyung covers Seokjin’s eyes

and shows his scarred back.

In this theory, ARMY believes Taehyung represents the devil that tempts Seokjin into succumbing to his desires. Seokjin wants to live in a world where all seven of them can be happy, and the only way to achieve that is to time travel. Similar to how the serpent tempts Adam and Eve to eat the apple, Taehyung tempts Seokjin into time traveling to reach his goal.

This theory is further supported by the scene from ‘피 땀 눈물 (Blood Sweat & Tears)’ Official MV that shows Seokjin kissing a stature with wings just like Taehyung’s.

In a way, it is kind of like Seokjin is making a pact with the Devil (Taehyung) to have the power to travel to the past.

Lost Angel

In opposition to the theory above, it is possible that Taehyung represents a lost angel who was born into unfortunate circumstances. As I discussed in my second blog post , Taehyung has an alcoholic father who abuses both him and his sister. His upbringing in such an environment leads to delinquent behavior and frequent trips to the police station. The most prominent scene from Taehyung’s life is when he stabs his father in I NEED YOU after witnessing him hitting his sister. While murder is never a good thing, can the reasons behind the atrocious act ever justify it? In other words, is Taehyung simply lost angel?

In multiple BU videos, Taehyung is seen being arrested.

There are also many instances where Taehyung’s father is directly seen abusing him or his sister, or the scenery suggests some type of physical abuse has occurred.

In Taehyung’s Wings short film, there are scenes depicting an invisible force (his father) physically abusing him.

In the I NEED YOU music video, Taehyung decides to go against his father after walking in on him abusing his sister.

He ends up stabbing his father with a broken bottle and ultimately kills him. Unfortunately, it is his sister that takes the blame for the murder, and his guilt is evident through the lyrics of his solo song “Stigma.”

Another scene in Taehyung’s Wings short film depicts him with a small puppy.

Eventually, a cage appears and traps Taehyung inside, while the puppy runs free.

These visual depictions of Taehyung’s life allude to the theory that he is merely a good kid raised in a bad family. Children can’t choose who they’re born to, and Taehyung’s situation is just one example of how the world is unfair. In this sense, ARMY believes that Taehyung represents a lost angel whose surroundings have prevented him from living a peaceful life.

I’d just like to mention that Bighit has not confirmed any fan theories yet, and the information above may be false. These are just my thoughts on Taehyung’s character, and in no way are any of the things mentioned above related to his actual life.
