What They’re Saying

This was my first experience coding and it allowed for me a safe and inviting space to learn this new skill. Questions and other communications were always handled efficiently and I never felt like I was lost without someone to provide guidance or support.

It was a very well-run workshop/experience. I appreciated the hands-on approach and the willingness of the instructors to answer questions and help resolve problems. It was a very encouraging, educational, non-judgmental atmosphere. And I learned a LOT!!

There is a lot of creativity in coding that I was not aware of. I used to think of coding as something dry and boring, but this class helped me to see how coding intersects with web design and art. The instructors made it fun, were friendly and informative, and encouraged us to explore our interests when working on our final project.

The format was very welcoming with no pressure. It has made me want to take a class to learn more about coding. I don’t think I would have enough confidence to take a coding class without having taken this class first.

I took this Code for Her workshop because I work with web designers as a professional public relations person, and I wanted to truly learn how to do the work I was paying for. But, I was always “afraid” and didn’t think I could ever understand how to code a website from scratch. So, from day one, I really enjoyed how each instructor was confident that 1) I could learn how to code, 2) they could teach us how to do it. Their confidence and knowledge gave me confidence. So, I enjoyed the passion of the instructors and their desire to have us learn. I think if I had had this kind of encouragement in elementary school, or even college, I would have tried coding.

I really enjoyed the friendly instructors, inclusive teaching environment, and opportunity to gain new skills.

I loved the facilitators. I felt that they genuinely cared about everyone that participated and took intentional and specific time with each of us throughout the nine weeks to make sure we understood what we were learning. I also think that targeting specific languages during certain portions of the course were helpful and a great build up.

What I found… most useful is a safe learning environment with women. Being treated with respect despite my lack of computer knowledge.

I enjoyed having designated time to work on programming. All of the teachers were so friendly, and the folks in the workshop were also supportive and great at asking questions. It was impressive and encouraging to see people taking time out of their schedule to devote to personal/professional development.
