Workshop Tools

Welcome to Code For Her! Our goal is to create the best experience for participants to learn about Web Development. In order to do this, we use different tools and software to help us along the way. For specific syllabi and content like slides, navigate under this current menu item to find each cohort syllabus.

Visual Studio Code Online – This is a free open source Integrated Development Environment (IDE). We will use this to type our code in and it has some really neat features but for now this will be our code editor. Please click the icon to the left to go directly to the VS Code website.

Gitlab – If you have ever heard of Github which is a repository community, then you’ll be familiar with Gitlab! Repositories are basically storage locations for code, here, developers and users of all kind can host code for others to reuse, edit, share, and make suggestions about code. And most importantly, you can “push” or “pull” code to the repository. Think of this as submitting code to a folder and retrieving that same code to another location (if desired). Penn State has a version of Gitlab for us to use for free with your Penn State Access Account and Code For Her has its own repository: Check it out!

Twitter – Feel free to engage with us on Twitter! We encourage participants during the workshop to tweet the interesting things they are learning and doing. We want to generate interest in Code For Her as well as excitement to the ever-growing community of supporters in the network. Our handle is @codeforher and feel free to use the #cfhsemesteryear hashtag. This semester’s is #cfhfall2019!
