Fossil fuels are the single most important resource of the 20th and 21st century. They are the driving force behind most things that move, and power entire countries. The reason most countries were able to industrialize and leave the medieval age was because of fossil fuels. With the introduction of this new fuel, superior ways to provide heat and power were discovered. However as a limited resource, the world is getting closer to the inevitable end of this fuel. They say oil is liquid gold. It seems as if these corporations have the most money out of any other private sector. To give up this monopoly is no easy statement. According to the Obama administration a lot more companies are surrendering to the environmentalists, and cooperating with new policies and standards.
“More than 350 businesses and investors—including industry giants Nestlé, Unilever, Staples, General Mills, and Adidas—sent a letter to 29 U.S. governors voicing their support for the Clean Power Plan.”
Of course Adidas probably doesn’t care if coal plants have to reduce emissions, but with large corporate and public support, clean energy is on the way. Right now there is not legislation on how much carbon emissions companies can pump into the air. This is a large step on the way to clean energy. Scientists are unsure how much greenhouse gasses the earth can take before it’s late, and we can’t reverse the damage. It only makes sense to make major changes as soon as possible. The Obama administration and mainly environmentalists everywhere are trying to convince people that is a major problem. Many people like to say that it’s just a hoax, but when 95%-99% of scientists agree on terrifying numbers and statistics, people are likely to make a change.
