2019 Musculoskeletal Research Symposium

The Penn State Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation cordially invites you to attend and actively participate in the 2019 Musculoskeletal Research Symposium on Wednesday, May 15, in Heritage Hall at the HUB-Robeson Center. The symposium will bring together basic, applied, and clinical researchers with a goal of creating more robust collaborations and crosscutting research efforts to tackle critical issues in musculoskeletal medicine. We hope interested scientists and engineers and trainees will join the dozens of clinicians that will attend this annual event from Penn State College of Medicine.

The agenda includes three scientific sessions, a keynote presentation by Kathleen Derwin, Ph.D, of the Cleveland Clinic, a poster session, and networking events. All interested scientists and members of the Penn State community are welcome. Lunch and snacks will be served for all registered attendees.

Call for Abstracts

We also encourage faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical students to submit abstracts of their own research. Three presentations will be selected from the submitted abstracts, and there will be awards for the best trainee presentations and posters. The deadline to submit abstracts is March 15.

More information, including registration for the event, is available online at sites.psu.edu/msksymposium. For questions, please contact Sherry Hoffman at shoffman4@pennstatehealth.psu.edu or 717-531-4686.

Seminar: Mechanization and Automation for Specialty Crop Production

Long He, assistant professor of agricultural and biological engineering at Penn State, will present a seminar titled “Mechanization and Automation for Specialty Crop Production” on Monday, February 4, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM in 312 Agricultural Engineering Building.

Abstract

Specialty crop is one of major agriculture sectors in the U.S. Until today, the majority of field operations for specialty crops still highly depend on seasonal human labor, and those operations are typically labor intensive and time sensitive. As the increasing challenges of high cost and less availability to human labor force, it is critical to seek technological innovations to assist growers in maintaining a competitive position in the global marketplace. Dr. He will present some of his past and current works with the effort towards the mechanization and automation for specialty crop production. The achievements and challenges will be included.
