Call for Nominations: Perez Memorial Student Advocate Award

Nominate a Faculty Member for the Lawrence J. Perez Memorial Student Advocate Award.

Purpose of the award: To recognize a College of Engineering faculty member who contributes to the welfare of students and enriches the College by his or her willingness to devote significant time and effort to assist students academically and/or personally as they pursue their engineering degrees.

Award amount: $3,000

Eligibility: All full-time College of Engineering faculty members may receive this award no more than once every four years. View past recipients.

Nominations for this award may be made by individual students, the Engineering Student Council, student engineering honor societies, or student engineering professional societies.

To nominate a faculty member, submit a statement of no more than 1,500 words by September 5 to PSESNOM@engr.psu.edu.

Call for Food-Energy-Water (FEW) Nexus Steering Committee Members

The recently awarded Food-Energy-Water (FEW) Nexus Strategic Initiative team seeks to expand the executive steering committee to include dedicated faculty, staff, and students from across all Penn State campuses and colleges.

The goals of the steering committee include:

  • alignment and expansion of local and global research initiatives;
  • formation of working groups and research teams;
  • integration of related seminar series; etc.

USAF Research Lab Faculty Fellowship Program

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) is pleased to announce that the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Summer Faculty Fellowship Program (SFFP) will start accepting applications for FY2020 on September 1, 2019, from qualified faculty members interested in conducting research at Air Force (AF) Research Labs/Centers.

The AFRL SFFP is managed and administered by Systems Plus, Inc. and offers hands-on exposure to faculty members at U.S. colleges and universities to perform high-quality and meaningful research at AFRL Directorates, Air Force Test Centers, the U.S. Air Force Academy, or the Air Force Institute of Technology during the summer months for an 8- to 12-week period. Research Fellows are highly encouraged to bring a graduate student with them for the research period.

Research Fellows use the residencies for full-time research in the science, technology, mathematics, and engineering fields engaging in challenging research at some of our nation’s most advanced laboratories and facilities.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program Information Sessions

Penn State students interested in applying for an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) are encouraged to attend any of the following information sessions. Registration is requested.

  • Wednesday, September 18, 2019

    Foster Auditorium, Paterno Library

Students will learn about the GRFP application process and will have the opportunity to hear from a faculty mentor and a student who received the GRFP. They will share their experiences with the program and offer advice on developing strong applications.

Students are encouraged to submit their questions on the form when registering for the session. Students may also ask questions at the event. Registration closes the day before the session.
