The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is seeking applications to fund outstanding Ph.D. students whose research is relevant to preventing and controlling crime, and ensuring the fair and impartial administration of criminal justice in the United States. Eligible applicants are degree-granting academic institutions in the United States and its territories, and must be fully accredited by one of the regional accreditation agencies recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The institution applies on behalf of an eligible student whose dissertation research is relevant to the NIJ’s criminal justice mission.
GRF fellowships provide up to three years of support within a five-year period, and include:
- $35,000/year student salary and fringe
- $12,000/year cost of education allowance
- $3,000/year research expenses
In recent years, the NIJ had posted separate solicitations for applicants in the social and behavioral sciences (GRF-SBS) and for those in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields (GRF-STEM). All eligible applicants are now invited to apply under this single funding opportunity, without distinction between SBS and STEM.
GRF applications are due on April 15, 2020.
