BARDA applications

This is a reminder that the Science Center is working with The Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to identify the most innovative products and technologies to protect Americans from the most serious systemic, natural and intentional health security threats.

BARDA’s Division of Research, Innovation, and Ventures (DRIVe) is building a network of accelerators across the US to promote national health security innovation. The DRIVe Accelerator Network selected the Science Center and twelve other accelerators around the US to identify promising innovations in health security. At this time their focus is singularly on medical countermeasures for COVID-19.

If you have a company or technology that is currently working on COVID-19, you should consider applying to BARDA.

There are three ways to apply to BARDA:

  1. EZ BAA:  Click here
For earlier stage companies, the decision in 30 days, funding up to $749K
  2. BARDA BAA: Click here
For later-stage companies, at least at Phase II, no limit on funding, the decision in 6-8 months, although could be expedited.

There is also a TechWatch for COVID-19 related technologies. Click here for more information. Our recommendation is to apply to the TechWatch first, hear the feedback and then apply to EZ BAA.

Misson to Mars Research Project

The following opportunity is meant for undergraduate students only. Please forward to any undergraduates you feel would be interested in this opportunity:

REAC/TS is an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education facility with the mission to strengthen the medical response to radiological and nuclear incidents. REAC/TS has recently partnered with NASA to provide specialized knowledge for the medical community and emergency planners in the area around the upcoming Mars Rover Launch. ORISE is hosting a research-based challenge for undergraduate students to research a partner supporting NASA’s upcoming Mars 2020 Launch, learn about the partner’s capabilities, and discuss why that partner is necessary for the mission. Your research could win you a $5,000 scholarship!

The deadline for this competition is March 31st, 2020, and winners will be announced in early May.
