Fisher’s Experience Paves Success
Softball is in full swing here at Penn State Altoona, and the team is looking forward to a successful season. Competing in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship is the purpose of this year’s softball team.
“I look forward to being back in the AMCC championship game and hopefully bringing home the win. The girls this year are great and if we work hard every day, then I believe we will be winning the AMCC,” said Alyssa Fisher, second year kinesiology major.
Fisher, a native of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, plays second base and is a pitcher for her second straight season.
Growing up in Lock Haven, Fisher went and played softball at Central Mountain High School where she was recruited during her sophomore year to play at PSUA.
“…I created a recruiting video of the different skills and sent it to a bunch of different college coaches. When I heard back from a couple different coaches, I set up a day and time to either meet with them on zoom or in person. When I came and met with the former head coach at PSUA we talked about school and softball. Afterwards, he took me around campus and asked me to join his team,” said Fisher.
Feeling at home while making meaningful connections is the main reason Fisher chose to play at PSUA.
Fisher created goals both academically and athletically before the start of season. Off the field she strives to be the best version of herself in the classroom while making the dean’s list again. On the field she plans to “step up as a leader and push everyone, herself included, to be better.”
“Me personally, I think my leadership could get the team a long way. If I continue stepping up in bigger situations, I feel like the other players will follow. I plan to make the routine plays and get the base hits needed to put us up in games,” said Fisher.
As athletes, it is important to have role models that push them to their best. For Fisher, her parents are her most influential role models today.
“My biggest role models are my mom and dad. On the field, I would say more my father because he grew up playing baseball, so he does understand a lot more about the competitiveness than my mom. My mom is off the field because of the way she carries herself. No matter what she goes through she is always making sure others are okay before herself,” said Fisher.

Do you listen to music before games? If so, what song: Morgan Wallen, specifically “Last Night”
Favorite pregame meal: Before every game I will eat a grilled cheese

Strengths & weaknesses: Strengths: leader, good communication, Weaknesses: get down on myself, can be a little too hard on myself
Season Goals: I want the team to accomplish pulling together in big games. Sometimes we tend to give up on ourselves and one another when getting down in games. If we start to come together and trust one another, wins will fall behind.
