Spring Grant-writing Workshop

This year, Penn State Abington is coordinating and hosting the Commonwealth Campuses Spring Grant-Writing Workshop scheduled for May 12th (8p-5p) and May 13th (830a-12p) and open to all faculty from the commonwealth campuses. You are welcomed to attend individual sessions and come and go as you please. The tentative agenda is attached. Below is a snapshot of opportunities for faculty who have not submitted a proposal for review as part of the conference. Those who have submitted proposals will be contacted directly by Michael Bernstein from Abington and are invited to attend all sessions.

Wednesday, May 12

  • 8 to 8:30 a.m. Welcome, Dr. Margo DelliCarpini, Chancellor for Commonwealth Campuses
  • 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Orientation: Includes discussion of general proposal writing
  • 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.: Grantwriting I: Reading an RFP, introduction to concept papers
  • 10:30 to 10:45 a.m.: Break
  • 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.: Tools to find funding opportunities
  • 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch and presentations: Two-minute “elevator speeches” where participants will describe their concept paper/preproposal/grant idea in a two-minute elevator speech format
  • 1 to 2:30 p.m. Grantwriting II: Examples of good and bad proposal writing, what reviewers look for in proposals, feedback on concept papers

Thursday, May 13

  • 8:30 to 9 a.m.: Elements of a budget
  • 10 to 10:15 a.m.: Break
  • 10:30 to 12 p.m.: Corporate and Foundation Funding
  • 10:15 to 11:30 a.m.: Disciplinary panels

  • 11:30 a.m. to noon Final wrap-up
