A shy girl from Allentown Pennsylvania makes the brave decision to commit to Penn State university a huge academic institution, only to find amazing new friends and the best summer of her life.

This week was so exciting, during the week I had a lot of work, I had an productive counterargument and exam. I wrote my productive counterargument on the ways to benefit the overall community of Penn State, I argued against a article that stated that renovating Beaver stadium would benefit the entire community. Later this week I have my second exam for Comm 100, I am very nervous. I am going to study a lot in hopes for an a.  I am very nervous but I know I am going to prepare myself. As I finish my work I am looking forward to this weekend, I am going to a Pitbull concert with my new friends.

This past weekend my friends and I went to Bald Eagle State Park. There we laid on the beach and rented a pontoon boat. We went tubing on the boat it was so much fun! We also had the chance to go swimming in the lake. During our trip it started to down pour that was an experience for sure. Besides the storm I had a lot of fun on the boat and i would recommend going here.

This week was very fun and stressful, but I got through it. I am sad the summer is coming to an end but I am looking forward to my last couple weeks and the fall semester. I am so glad I had the opportunity to start my journey at Penn State in the Summer!

On July 22 I meet with Professor Rafalko during her office hours, we discussed her career path. Professor Rafalko shared her college experience, she attended Kings college with a degree in English than she got her graduate degree at Ohio State. During that time she worked many different jobs, one being working at the Campbell soup company. Professor Rafalko shared her interests with me, she loves writing and teaching. She is now getting her masters at Penn State, while she is teaching an English 15 course. I am glad I had the opportunity to meet her because she a super nice person.

During the meeting I discussed my academic goals and career choice with her. I told her how I want to major in public relations and how i plan on achieving that goal. I discussed my experience I had at my first real public relations volunteer job. I am happy i got to discuss my goals with her, she gave me great advice and  told me I was on the right path.

I think office hours are an important resources for students because I had the opportunity to meet my professor on a personal level, which definitely helps a lot in class. I also got to discuss my own upcoming assignment, that was super helpful. I definitely see myself using office hours in the future when I need help with an assignment or if I need to discuss how I can improve my grade if I do poorly on an exam. My talk with my professor 1 on 1 was very helpful and I definitely recommend using office hours because they will truly benefit your college experience and they will allow you to effectively know your professor. I am glad I had the opportunity to talk to Professor Rafalko!

“We Belong to Something Beautiful” campaign highlights Sephora’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity. Sephora had some issues in the past with racial profiling, for example R&B singer SZA was racial profiled in one Sephora store in 2019. She posted on Twitter how a employee called security on her because she thought she was going to steal something. Incidents like these have pushed Sephora to educate and change there own ways of selling beauty products. Through research Sephora effectively found a way to connect to those customers of different minority groups.

Sephora successfully start the campaign in June 2019 by expanding their advertising to reach audiences in the LGBTQ+ community. By advertising with online video advertisement, they effectively highlighted the acceptance and inclusivity of same sex couple, transgender women, and everyone person who found their beauty through makeup. Sephora used micro influencers like Julie Vu, a transgender model and Madeline Stuart a runway model with Down syndrome. By using advertisements with these models many people that fit in that demographic felt welcome and included in Sephora new campaign and way of branding.

Sephora also created a sense of community for African Americans women. Sephora did this by dedicating fifteen percent of it’s shelf space to black-owned companies. This allowed African Americans to feel be included at Sephora by creating products made from them and by them. On June 5, 2020 Sephora closed all of it’s stores for an hour to educate their employees on their commitment to inclusivity. They also helped employees create a sense of belonging and way to keep this promise for good. Sephora was effectively able to promote this campaign due to the fact that they promoted this campaign in June 2020 the time during the Black Lives Matter campaign. This brought in more African American women and Sephora helped show their support for African American women.

The campaign uses the key term “we” to highlight the commitment Sephora has to different racial groups, people with disabilities, and transgender women. Sephora created this campaign to bring inclusivity to different minority groups, by showing them they belong at Sephora. Sephora’s hope was to allow more African American women, and LGBTQ+ communities to feel included in the retail industry.

I personally believe what Sephora did with their “We belong to Something Beautiful” campaign has changed the diversity of customers in the makeup industry. By introducing this sense of inclusivity many women worldwide now feel comfortable buying products that are now advertised and made for and by them. Creating this sense of inclusivity has allowed minority groups like African American women and women in the LGBTQ+ community feel more comfortable purchasing makeup or anything in the retail market. I am thrilled Sephora saw the huge issue of exclusivity in the retail industry and sought out many ways to change this for the better. I hope Sephora sticks to their campaign and continue to treat every minority group with respect, love, and care. I also hope that other makeup companies see these reform and try to better their policies to effectively include every minority group.

I was very busy, but I enjoyed all the work I had to do, being a public relations major I feel like this was the perfect experience!

I received the business card of the head manager at the company, I am so grateful i was able to receive a contact like that! Setting up for the party opened my eyes to my future career, which i am so excited for! I am super grateful for the experience I received. It was also great to learn about different religions like Judaism. I am so thankful that Penn State has amazing opportunity like this!

The term a films is found in chapter twelve “The Movie Industry.” A films is a term that is defined as highly paid productions that feature glamorous movie stars. A films are highly prevalent in the United States, many film buffs love to watch films that have their favorite actors. A films are a huge profit in the film industry, causing them to be a huge product in mass media. An advertisement of the new 2022 Batman movie is a perfect example of the term a films.

The film poster for The Batman is a visual example of a films. The poster highlights Robert Pattinson, the main actor for the new film The Batman. This production is a expensive film that features highly paid actors like Robert Pattinson whose network is 100 million. This is a perfect example of the term a films it is a film that highlights highly paid stars, the use of highly paid stars bring not only an audience that like the The Batman franchise but an audience that likes the actors. For example I personally saw The Batman due to the fact that it was starring Robert Pattinson.

The film is a perfect example of a films because it was a highly expensive film to produce and it includes the usage of glamorous movie stars like Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz. The poster itself highlights these highly paid stars, which makes this film fit into the category of an a film. The poster I found online define the term of a  films perfectly.

The poster highlights what the audience will expect, the producers do this by including  different characters and colors like red and orange to highlight the thrill and excitement this film will bring. The poster is a perfect use of advertisement that drives the audience to want to see this film. The movie poster is an important part of the film industry because it allows the audience the ability to see what the movie is about before buying tickets. This online poster perfectly represents the term a films by including glamorous stars and being a high budget film.

My take on recreating a scene from the HBO show Euphoria.

The photograph was taken Downtown at a fashion boutique. The flower wreath presents peace and happiness, through the usage of bright colors. 

This photograph was taken at Old Main. The flowers are used as decor to highlight the landscape of Old Main.

This photograph was taken at the Alumni pond. The flowers show the usage of nature and decor, this allows the pond to attract more wildlife.

This photograph was also taken at Old Main. The usage of these flowers represent a different outlook than the other flowers taken at Old Main. They show a different type of plant that is used to bring in more wildlife like birds.

The photographs presented above show the usage of diversity in many different ways. The diversity of flowers is being presented, through the use of many different types of flowers. The flowers all contain different colors, shapes, and sizes. Diversity is heavily seen through the use of the flowers, for example one flower is used for decor while another one is used to bring in more wildlife. The wreath of flowers represents a mood of peace and happiness. The wreath is also used to promote customers to the store by feeding into their moods. Each photograph represents a different type of flower and a different use of the flower. The photographs show how diversity can be shown in everything but more specially through the use of flowers.

This week at Penn State I had so much fun I experienced so many different things! This weekend I went down town and got Raising Canes! I also went swimming at The Yards, it was so much fun. My weekend was so much fun I spent a lot of time with my new friends. My friend Margo and I got our nails done! It was not the best nail salon but it was still nice to try a new place.

This week I had my first college exam, it was very nerve racking, I studied a lot, I thought I did okay for my first exam, still time for improvement though. I spent a lot of time with my friends in their dorm, we listened to music and got to know each other better. On Wednesday  my friends and I went to Plaza Mexican to celebrate my one friend’s birthday, it was so good. Overall I had an amazing week and I am looking forward to Arts Fest because my hometown friends are coming up, I am excited for them to meet my new friends!

I have learned so many tips this week on getting my work done while still having time to go out! I am so glad I am able to get my work done and still have fun! I am grateful that I have an opportunity to meet new people while learn in a smaller community.
