About CSFWS

What is Penn State Community Service Federal Work-Study?

Penn State’s Community Service Federal Work-Study programs encourage eligible Penn State students to participate in community service and service-learning experiences that benefit the community, promote social responsibility, and enhance their educational experiences. Penn State currently offers two such programs through which eligible students earn financial aid toward their educational costs while employed in these community service/service-learning positions, Nittany Lions Read/Nittany Lions Count and Community Service Federal Work-Study (CSFWS).  Students participating in these programs work with approved, participating community partners.  These positions are compensated at an hourly wage of $14.00/hour and are fully funded through work-study awards.

Nittany Lions Read/Nittany Lions Count is designed to support the development of early reading and math skills of children of the communities surrounding the Penn State while offering Penn State students a chance to gain valuable experience and give back to their community.  For more information about Nittany Lions Read/Nittany Lions count at University Park and participating campuses, visit the Nittany Lions Read/Nittany Lions Count website by clicking here.

Community Service Federal Work-Study (CSFWS) offers students the opportunity to give back to the community, gain work experience, and earn federal financial aid by working at a participating, non-profit organization in the communities surrounding Penn State campuses. Students who received a Federal Work Study award have the opportunity to obtain a job and perform related duties either on campus, or remotely, if possible and at the discretion of the employer. Students applying for Federal Work Study positions should clarify expectations with their potential employer regarding either on campus/in person or remote work arrangements. A Federal Work Study award does not guarantee a job position is available.
