Courseware

A digital application or software used by students or educators for a class

What is Courseware?

A broad definition of Courseware includes any digital application or software used by students or educators for a class. Courseware provides online learning tools such as lessons, homework sessions, and quizzes or tests. For Courseware to be used in a class, it must be reviewed and authorized by the University to ensure it meets the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and accessibility requirements.

 Getting Started

Follow these three steps to find out more about Courseware and how to select authorized Courseware.

Request Courseware

Follow these three steps:

  1. Review the Courseware Information on the Need to Know page.
  2. Check the Reviewed Courseware List prior to use each semester.
  3. Fill out the online form to Request Courseware not on the Reviewed Courseware List. You may download a copy of the online form for your reference. However, please submit your answers through the online form only.

Request an Integration with Canvas

If you would like to request a Canvas integration for a tool that has not yet been integrated but is listed on the Reviewed Courseware list, please email courseware@psu.edu.

Once requested, tools undergo a thorough security and privacy review which, depending on vendor responses, can take a significant amount of time. While Penn State IT works with the vendors to implement requests as soon as we can, please be aware we cannot guarantee a timeline and course planning should take this into consideration.
