Alexandria Ocasio Cortez otherwise known as AOC is a democratic representative from Ney York City, she has recently sparked friction with republican Senator Ted Cruz from Texas. It started when AOC tweeted about how it was immoral for investment companies like Robinhood to pause the trading of certain stocks such as GameStop and AMC theatres.
To this Sen. Ted Cruz Responded that he agreed that it too was wrong, a slight symbol that maybe after the past crazy years there would be some return to normal, civilized politics. However, AOC responded to Sen Cruz with another, more critical tweet.
Attitudes like this highlight the growing tension between the two parties, even when they both agree on what is wrong and right. It seems to me that the only thing that separates them from working together is whether they have a D or R in front of their name. The immense lack of trust on both sides of the isle does not help tensions either as both sides blame the other for all the Nation’s ills.
We continue to see this divide not only in politicians but in everyday citizens and celebrities who have disowned family members and friends who disagree with them politically. Especially within the past four years democrats and republicans seem to have lost focus on the country and instead focused on destroying and humiliating the opposite party. I believe that both sides need to start to respect the values, opinions, and viewpoints of others and attempt to understand where people across the aisle are coming from. This would lead to increased cooperation that would mutually help both parties and more importantly, the American people.
There are many problems facing our nation, most of which cannot, and will not be fixed overnight; however, if we are to move forward, we can only do so together, and united in the principles that this country was founded on the led to billions being lifted to freedom and prosperity.
Contrastingly, if this divide is not healed relatively soon and both sides do not put aside their differences and focus on making life better for Americans; then not only will their bases become more polarized and radicalized, but they will contribute to the destruction of political system they claim to respect and revere so solemnly. I say that It is time for politicians to stop being so partisan, work together, and help the American people.
I agree that we should be healing the nation and working in bi-partisan way, however I think the context of your example has not been entirely explained. Yes, AOC did critically lash out at Sen. Cruz, that cannot be ignored it is simply fact, however the claim that he was trying to get her killed is rooted in the 1/6/2021 Capitol Insurgence by Trump supporters. In which, Ted Cruz is accused of helping “fan the flames of anger among Trump supporters to appease the president and his supporters ahead of a possible 2024 run”. Cruz and ten other senators actively refused to accept the outcome of the general election unless Congress agreed to an “emergency audit” of the presidential election results. So, in my opinion, it is quite justified to lash out at a selfish person that has no regard for American Democracy. Great Post!
