Kevin Linderman, professor of Supply Chain Management of Supply Chain and Information Systems and chair of the Supply Chain and Information Systems Department, was named the 2023 Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) recently at the DSI Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
DSI aims to understand and improve the judgment and decision-making capabilities of individuals, groups, and organizations across all areas of human enterprise. The organization holds eight chapters and has three global divisions with over 50 countries represented in its numbers.
“I initially participated in the DSI conference in 1997 as a PhD student navigating the academic job market,” said Linderman. “In 2019, I had the honor of chairing the annual conference, which held special significance as it marked the 50th anniversary of DSI. DSI boasts a rich tradition of integrating decision sciences with supply chain management and information systems.”
The designation as a Fellow honors DSI members who demonstrate outstanding lifetime accomplishments and contributions to their field—which for Linderman is the supply chain and information systems field. Fellows are nominated by members of the Institute, recommended by the Fellows Committee, and elected by the Institute’s Board of Directors.
The process to become a fellow is rigorous, as the selected must distinguish themselves as an eminent scholar in their field, backed by substantive research contributions. Specific eligibility criteria include high-quality publications, research awards, citation counts, editorial positions, keynote speeches at academic conferences, and invitations by research universities to present research colloquia.
“Receiving the award was an incredible honor. I clearly recall attending the conference as a young faculty member, watching this recognition conferred to leaders in the field. I never imagined that one day I would also be acknowledged as a fellow,” Linderman noted.
Linderman has received a number of scholarly awards recognition including being ranked in the 2020 Decision Science Journal as one of the top 10 most productive and influential scholars in the field; the 2018 Supply Chain & Operations Teaching Award; 2016 Associate Editor Award Journal of Supply Chain Management; 2016 Operations Management Scholar Award (Career Award – Academy of Management); 2016 Associate Editor Award Decision Science Journal; 2015 Associate Editor Award Journal of Supply Chain Management; 2015 and 2011 Carlson School of Management Research Award; 2010 and 2006 Elwood S. Buffa Doctoral Dissertation Award (Co-advisor); and the 2004 Academy of Management Chan K. Hahn Distinguished Paper Award.
In addition to their scholarly pursuits, Fellows must be an active leader and contributor to the vision, mission, and activities of the Institute. As this year’s Fellow, Linderman will participate in conference leadership, DSI involvement, and DSI board membership.
