The Struggles of Knee Problems and Others Like it.

You know what sucks? Strain on the body. I wish it didn’t exist, but sadly, it is. Since I dance hip-hop, a lot of my dancing involves landing on my knees. Spinning on my knees, falling on my knees, switching knees, etc. It puts a lot of strain on them and I would not be surprised if I end up with knee problems in the future. I’m considering buying knee pads for sake of protection. Les Twins have them, so I feel like I should have them. I do want to continue dancing for a while, and I can’t continue to do so if I have really weak knees.

It also doesn’t help that I ran Cross Country and Track for 4 years. It put a lot of strain on my legs, and dancing just added on the strain. It sucks, but I live with it. I try not to land on my knees in such a bad way, but sometimes it is inevitable.

It’s mostly my knees, but there is strain on other parts of my body. Now, granted, I don’t experience as much strain as Ballet dancers would. For those who don’t know, I have the absolute upmost respect for Ballet dancers. It is one of the most difficult dances to learn and master, they have the most strain, and in general is just a very tedious dance to learn. But, it is one of the most beautiful dances you can see, so it makes up for it. There is some strain on my arms from moving them around so much, and sometimes landing on them when jumping. But it is minuscule compared to my knees.

I wish my body would just not feel bad ever. Then I could just dance whenever I want, wherever I want. It’d be a wonderful time, but sadly, that’s not true. Oh well, one can dream.

My TED Talk!

My TED Talk is about dance, so I feel it’s fitting to talk about it in my blog. I’m pretty excited about it not going to lie. I love talking about dance, and I can talk about my forever.

I don’t want to give too much away, but I’m basically talking about how the internet has evolved dance due to it’s exposure. There are a lot of videos out there on YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and all sorts of video sites that are tutorials for dancing. From styles like tutting, popping, ballet, contemporary, you can pretty much find a tutorial on anything.

A lot of great dancers nowadays don’t have formal training, unlike dancers like Gene Kelly or Michael Jackson who had formal dance training. I’m not taking away the fact that they are great dancers, they are both legends and I idolize them both. But, it’s possible in this day and age to be considered a great dancer and not have formal training at all. For example, Les Twins (I’m so sorry for mentioning them so much) have had no formal training at all. All they did was observe street dancers in France.

I myself had not had any formal training. Granted, I am by no means a great dancer, I consider myself to be “okay”, but I’ve learned that it is possible. The internet is dances best friends really, and I love that it is. The internet and its availability has exposed dance to such a huge degree, it’s almost impossible to not be around it.

I’m pretty nervous for this TED Talk, hopefully it goes well.
